1. Miss World 2025:
Why in news?
Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri crowned Miss World 2025
About Miss World 2025:
- Miss Thailand was crowned Miss World 2025 at the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, Telangana
- The winner was crowned by Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic.
- Nandini Gupta, Miss India 2025, was out of the race after making it to the Top 20.
Important points:
- Miss World was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951.
- It was initially a part of the Festival of Britain.
- The crown was very first won by Miss Sweden, Kiki Haakinson, on April 19th, 1951.
- The first Miss World from India was Reita Faria, who won the crown in 1966.

2. Telangana Formation Day:
Why in news?
Telangana Formation Day is celebrated on June 2nd
About the day and its importance:
- Telangana was officially established as the 29th state of India on June 2, 2014.
- Telangana was formed after a long and historic movement demanding separate statehood from Andhra Pradesh.
- The demand stemmed from socio-economic and cultural differences, as well as concerns about neglect in development and governance.
- The movement gained momentum over decades, with strong public support and leadership by regional parties.
- Finally, the Indian Parliament passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act in 2014, paving the way for Telangana to emerge as an independent state with Hyderabad as its capital.
- Note: Chandrashekar Rao became the first Chief Minister of Telangana State on 2nd June, 2014.
3. 4th state capital in the North East get its rail connectivity:
Why in news?
Aizawl becomes 4th state capital in the North East to be connected with the rail network
Success of this launching New rail connectivity:
- The Northeast Frontier Railway successfully conducted a trial run on the Bairabi-Sairang rail track, connecting Aizawl with the national rail network.
- Mizoram’s capital Aizawl has now joined Dispur (Assam), Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) and Naharlagun near Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) to be connected with the national rail network of the Indian Railways.
GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES
4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar:
Projects launched in Bihar:
- PM Modi inaugurated Patna Airport’s newly constructed passenger terminal, which cost Rs 1200 crore and can handle around 1 crore passengers per year.
- He also laid the foundation stone for constructing a new civilian enclave at Bihta Airport in the state.
- PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the bridge over the Ganga River, which will connect Buxar in Bihar to Bharauli in Uttar Pradesh.
- The Rs 368 crore project will have a length of 3.2 km. He also laid the foundation stone of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, Stage II, in the Aurangabad district of Bihar.
- Three units of 800 MW each will be constructed at the cost of Rs 29,984 crore.
PM inaugurated under mentioned projects in Uttar Pradesh:
- First unit of the 1980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project was inaugurated in Kanpur.
- The plant will have three units of 660 MW each. 600 MW unit of the Panki Thermal Power Plant in Kanpur.
- Jawaharpur Thermal Power Plant in the Malawan village of the Etah District.
- It has an installed capacity of 1320 MW with 2 units of 660 MW each.
- Obra C Thermal Power Plant in the Sonbhadra district.
- It has an installed capacity of 1320 MW with 2 units of 660 MW each.
- PM virtually inaugurated the first unit of the Khurja Thermal Power Plant in Bulandshahr district.
- The Plant has an installed capacity of 1320 MW with 2 units of 660 MW each.
- The new underground section of the Kanpur metro project was also inaugurated by PM Modi.

5. World No Tobacco Day:
Why in news?
World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31st
About the day and its importance:
- The day aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to advocate for policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
- The Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day in 1987.
- The first official observance occurred in 1988.
- Two themes are floating for year 2025:
- “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.”
- ‘Bright products. Dark intentions’
6. International Day of Potato:
Why in news?
International Day of Potato is celebrated on May 30th
About the day and its importance:
- In December 2023, the United Nations announced that May 30 will be observed as International Potato Day every year.
- First observance took place on May 30th, 2024.
- Theme 2025: ‘Shaping history, feeding the future’
