About the Aim of this WAVES summit:

- The inaugural and biggest entertainment event of the year, World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025), started at Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai.

- The event will go on for four days, from May 1-4, 2025.

- The global summit, hosted by the Government of India, brings together leading figures from the fields of media, technology, and entertainment, highlighting the country’s growing stature in the global creative economy.

- The event has attracted more than 100,000 registrations, including over 1,100 international participants.

- It features a diverse lineup of speakers and attendees, ranging from film icons such as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan to tech leaders like Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai.India holds a 62% share in the global turmeric trade, exporting 1.62 lakh tonnes of turmeric valued at $226.5 million in 2023-24.

- The summit is aimed at fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in the Media & Entertainment (M&E)sector, as well as strengthening India’s position as a global hub for content creation and digital innovation.

- US instructs Pakistan to co-operate when India strikes them:

- Amid escalation in tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, United States Vice President J D Vance, on 01 May 2025, said that he hoped Pakistan, “to the extent that they are responsible”, cooperates with India in hunting down terrorists that “sometimes operate” in their territory.
- His remarks come in the wake of the April 21 attack in the Baisaran meadow in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where terrorists killed 26 civilians.
- In response, India initiated a series of diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the suspension of visas for Pakistani nationals and the closure of its airspace to Pakistani aircraft, among others.
- Vance’s statements are in line with those of the US State Department. On 01 May 2025, the department stated that the US stands strong with India against terrorism and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “has our full support”.
