- Surgeons have performed the world’s first-ever human bladder transplant calling it a “historic” operation that has the potential to change the lives of millions patients with bladder diseases.
- For the first bladder transplant on Oscar Larrainzar, after seven years on dialysis with no kidneys and a barely functioning bladder, the procedure was a success – with no dialysis needed post-operation

2. Khelo India Beach Games:
Why in news?
First-ever Khelo India Beach Games begins
About the news in detail:
- According to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the first Khelo India Beach Games will be held in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu from 19-25 May 2025.
- Competitive sports (Total 6) – Beach soccer, Pencak silat, Sepaktakraw or kick volleyball, Beach kabaddi, Beach volleyball, and open water swimming.
- Demonstration sports (Total 2) – Tug of War and Mallakhamb (No medal is given in these sports)
- Venue- Ghoghla Beach and Diu Beach
- Over 1000 athletes from 22 states/Union Territories are expected to participate in the first Khelo India Beach Games 2025.
3. ‘One Rank One Pension’ for all retired High Court Judges:

Supreme Court upholds ‘One Rank One Pension’ for all retired High Court Judges
About the judgment details in brief:
- In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court of India has declared that all retired High Court judges are entitled to equal and full pension under the principle of “One Rank One Pension.”
- The Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, along with Justices AG Masih and K Vinod Chandran, issued directives mandating the Union of India to pay: Rs 15 lakh annually to retired High Court Chief Justices. Rs 13.5 lakh annually to retired High Court judges, including those who served as additional judges.
- The decision relies on Article 14 (Right to Equality) of the Indian Constitution.
Background:
- High Court judges in India are either appointed as permanent judges or additional judges.
- Additional judges are often appointed to address a temporary increase in workload.
- Until now, only permanent judges were eligible for full pension, creating a disparity.
4. Conservation work of ‘Rajon ki Baoli’:
why in news?
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), in collaboration with the World Monuments Fund India (WMFI) and the TCS Foundation, has successfully completed the conservation work of ‘Rajon ki Baoli’
About the Archaeological work:
- Rajon ki Baoli, also known as Rajon ki Bain, is a historical stepwell of 16th-century.
- It is located in south Delhi’s Mehrauli Archaeological Park.
- It was built in 1506 CE by Daulat Khan during the reign of Sikander Lodi, of the Lodi dynasty, which was the last pre-Mughal dynasty in India.
- It is a fine example of Indo-Islamic architecture, featuring intricate stone carvings, ornate arches, and a functional design that provided a natural respite from the heat.
