1. PM Modi inaugurates International Seaport:
Why in news?
PM Modi inaugurates Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala
Geographical importance of inaugurating this International seaport:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the Vizhinjam seaport in Kerala’s capital city of Thiruvananthapuram on 02 May 2025.
- The mega port, built at a cost of Rs 8,900 crore, is expected to transform India’s maritime infrastructure and logistics efficiency.
- Built by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), the project is touted as India’s first deep-water dedicated container transhipment port that can significantly boost India’s presence in global shipping.

About the historical importance of this status:
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on 01 May 2025, dedicated a road in New Delhi after Bodofa Upendranath Brahma and unveiled the Bodo leader’s statue, coinciding with his 35th death anniversary
- Brahma (March 31, 1956-May 1, 1990) was a student leader whose mantra for the Bodoland movement was “live and let live”.
3. Raghuji Bhosale’s Legendary Sword in news:
Why in news?
On April 29, 2025, the Maharashtra government successfully purchased the iconic sword of Raghuji Bhosale I from an auction in London for Rs 47.15 lakh.
About the Sword and its unique importance:
- Raghuji Bhosale I was a prominent Maratha warrior and the founder of the Nagpur Bhosale dynasty.
- The sword was possibly part of the loot from the 1817 Battle of Sitabuldi, following the defeat of the Nagpur Bhonsles by the British East India Company.

About Details of the new Member of UPSC:
- Sujata Chaturvedi is a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre.
- She assumed charge as a Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on 01 May 2025.
Composition of UPSC Commission:
- The Commission consists of the chairman and other members appointed by The president of India.
- Usually, the Commission consists of 9 to 11 members including the chairman.
- Currently, Mrs. Preeti Sudan is serving as the UPSC Chairman.
