1. Five new non-permanent members for the UN Security Council:
why in news?
United Nations elect five new non-permanent members for the UN Security Council
About the new Members of UN Security council:
- United Nations General Assembly elected Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Latvia, and Liberia as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for a two-year term starting in January 2026.
- The newly elected members will replace Slovenia, South Korea, Guyana, Algeria, and Sierra Leone, whose terms end on 31st December 2025.
- New countries will join the 15-member Council, which plays a central role in maintaining international peace and security.
- Out of 15 members in Security Council, five members -China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America are permanent members and have veto power.
- Note: Latvia is a small East European country and has been elected to the Security Council for the first time.

2. Chenab Bridge:
Why in news?
PM Modi inaugurates Chenab Bridge
About the Chenab Bridge and its Structural importance:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurated Chenab Railway Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, in Jammu’s Reasi District.
- It rises 359 metres above the Chenab River, 35 metres higher than the Eiffel Tower, and spans 1,315 metres in length.
- The bridge is designed to withstand winds of up to 260 km per hour.
- The bridge has a projected lifespan of 120 years and has been built at a cost of Rs 1,486 crore.
- The bridge is a vital link between Jammu and Srinagar and an important component of the 272 Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
3. Katra-Kashmir rail Link:
Why in news?
Katra-Kashmir rail link fully operational after 28 years
About this rail connectivity and its Geographical importance:
- After a monumental nearly 28-year endeavour, the 272-kilometre Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project has achieved full operational status.
- This transformative infrastructure marvel. initiated in 1997, represents a significant triumph of engineering and perseverance, finally connecting the Kashmir Valley to the broader Indian railway network.
- Note: PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the final phase of the USBRL project the Sangaldan to Katra section, making the entire rail line fully operational.

4. ‘Indian Languages Section’:
Why in news?
Government launches ‘Indian Languages Section’ to free administration from foreign language influence
Aim of this New initiative by Government:
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah, launched the Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag (BBA), or Indian Languages Section.
- BBA will aim to provide an organised platform for all Indian languages to move towards “freeing the administration from the influence of foreign languages.”

5. Repo rate by RBI:
Why in news?
RBI cuts repo rate by 50 bps to 5.50%
About the Repo rate fixation by RBI:
- On 06 June 2025, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) under the chairmanship of Sanjay Malhotra, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, voted to reduce the policy repo rate by 50 basis points (bps) to 5.50% with immediate effect.
- Real GDP growth rate for year 2025-2026 has been kept unchanged at 6.5%.

- Policy Repo Rate: 5.50%;
- Standing Deposit Facility Rate: 5.25%
- Marginal Standing Facility Rate (MSF): 5.75%;
- Bank Rate: 5.75%
